Cyanotype Child is the first full-length album of Jessie Dara, a Canadian singer/songwriter living in Toronto, ON. Recorded between 2015 and 2019, the album chronicles efforts at self-embrace in unreconciled reflections, a search for what we can come back to in a constancy of seasons and imperfectly striving towards change. Captured in narrative lyricism and imprinting imagery: a "well-worn suit of wishes", the truth a river knows about redemption, dreams lost in their own reflection, the observing moon on the other side of a game of peek-a-boo; the abstract and the physical active players in the songs.
Weaving dreamy folk pop with soulful lines of Rhodes piano and brass the effect here is warm and the delivery to a meeting place in the tender human condition direct. From out of the shades of indigo that a life lived is painted in, here is a songwriter trying to capture something of inner being, the cyanotype child coming into focus, feeling its way towards the light.
